Sohani Deonarain is the founder of Oogappel Optometry. With nearly a decade of professional experience, she has refined an approach to eye care that is thorough and patient-centred. Her consultations are intentionally unhurried, creating space to understand visual comfort, clarity, daily visual demands and long-term eye health. Patients often describe her as reassuring, thoughtful and genuine. 

 

Her clinical practice is grounded in a strong academic foundation. Sohani graduated with a Bachelor of Optometry Cum Laude from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where she was awarded Best Overall Final Year Optometry Student and Best Low Vision Clinician in her graduating class. Earlier in her studies, she received the Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year award, together with multiple academic commendations and merit distinctions. 

 

Alongside her optometric expertise, Sohani has a natural appreciation for aesthetics and design. She guides patients in selecting eyewear that feels authentic — frames that express personality with comfort and quiet confidence.
